RULES MATTER #28 - TIME OF STARTING May 08, 2012

The new Rules of Golf for 2012 until 2015 have a number of amendments which I shall be update on Golferholics.Com progressively. Rule 6-3a. Time of Starting Rule 6-3a is amended to provide that the penalty for starting late, but within five minutes of the starting time, is reduced from disqualification to loss of the first hole in match play or two strokes at the first hole in stroke play. Previously this penalty reduction could be introduced as a condition of competition.This is a good amendment but the incentive is still there to leave home early – it’s heart breaking to see someone travel for Brisbane to the Gold Coast for an event only to be held up in traffic and being disqualified on arrival because they were over 5 minutes late.
